Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa melted the hearts of millions of daytime fans as All My Children couple Mateo and Hayley Santos, and their latest gig is giving the real-life husband and wife pair some major Pine Valley nostalgia.
As Soap Central recently reported, Ripa is making a guest-starring appearance on Consuelos' CW series, Riverdale -- as his character Hiram Lodge's secret mistress, no less -- and the casting has Consuelos thinking about the pair's early soap opera days.
"It was such a treat [to act with her again]," Consuelos tells Good Housekeeping of his on-screen reunion with Ripa, who now co-hosts Live! with Kelly and Ryan. "That's how I started my career, working with my wife. We haven't done it in such a long time, acting-wise. It was really good to have her on the show... It was just a lot of fun."
As for Ripa, she jokes that she spent 23 years auditioning to finally land the role of her hubby's mistress -- a role she says she was "born to play."
Ripa and Consuelos met when their characters were paired on All My Children back in the mid-90s. Their real-life chemistry was just as hot as their Pine Valley alter egos', leading them to elope just months after initially meeting. They've been married ever since and share three children together: sons Michael, 21, and Joaquin, 15, and daughter Lola, 17.
Riverdale hasn't announced when Ripa is scheduled to make her appearance, but rumor has it she'll be popping up in the episode airing Wednesday, January 30.
