Danielle Frye was born to Officer Mimi Reed met colleague Detective Derek Frye in 1994. It was then that Grace Keefer, the distraught mother of a child whom Mimi shot and killed in the line of duty kidnapped a newborn Danielle. Grace took Danielle from the nursery and took her home with her where she tried to raise the baby as her own. After it was learned that Grace had kidnapped Danielle, Grace took the baby to a mountaintop and nearly jumped off a cliff. Luckily, Derek's nephew, Terrence, was able to talk Grace down and Danielle was safely reunited with her mother and father.

Upon Mimi and Derek's divorce in 1995, Danielle went to live with her mother.

Danielle re-emerged in Pine Valley in 2004 as a teenager. She met up with young Reggie Montgomery, Jackson's adopted son. Danielle told Reggie that she had run away from home because of her abusive and drug-and-alcohol addicted mother. Reggie had no idea that the girl was the chief of police's daughter. The truth was revealed later to him later and Reggie was crushed. He had developed feelings -- sexual and otherwise -- for Danielle, but promptly gave her the boot when Livia Frye revealed Danielle's identity. Livia also questioned why Danielle would concoct a story about how bad it was to live with Mimi.

Derek discovered Danielle had returned to town and wasn't thrilled that she had taken up with Reggie Montgomery. Reggie was shocked to learn he was dating Chief Frye's daughter. As Danielle and Reggie began to get serious with each other, Derek grudgingly consented to their dating.

Reggie and Danielle's feelings deepened, and Reggie wanted to have sex. Danielle confessed that she was a virgin and not ready for intercourse. Reggie shocked her by admitting that he was a virgin as well. The two agreed to wait, and solidified their commitment to each other.

Things between Danielle and Reggie took a turn for the worse when Danielle ended up in bed with Josh Madden following a night of drinking. Danielle's stepdad-to-be, Garret Williams, found her in bed with and promised to keep Danielle's secret and the chill between the two eventually subsided.

But the thaw didn't last long.

Danielle became creeped out when Garret continued ogled her and made inappropriate and unwanted advances. Danielle told her mother about Garret's leering on the eve of Mimi's wedding. Unfortunately, Mimi believed Garret over her daughter and went ahead with the wedding. No one knew that Garret harbored a dark secret: he was The Dragon, the head of a mob-like organization that had killed Noah Keefer and was actively seeking out Julia Keefer - and the very man that police captain Mimi Reed was looking for.

Mimi eventually discovered the truth about Garret, but Danielle lost her confidant, Reggie, when she lost her virginity to Josh Madden.
