Rebecca cared for and eventually fell in love with Jesse Hubbard during his 20-years on the run from mobster Papel. Jesse had been suffering from total mental collapse as he missed his family and hated having to be away from them. After Jesse recovered, Rebecca continued to harbor him, and ultimately gave birth to their daughter, Natalia. Rebecca knew that Jesse was already married to Angie, and ultimately encouraged him to return to his wife and son.
Rebecca arrived in Pine Valley during the tornadoes, when her daughter Natalia was injured. After collapsing at the hospital, Rebecca learned that she was suffering from an inoperable brain tumor. Knowing that Rebecca's time was drawing closer to the end, Angie invited her to stay with her and Jesse. The ensuing living arrangement wasn't easy for anyone involved.
Rebecca decided not to treat her cancer and she signed a do not resuscitate order. Natalia believed her mother was giving up without a fight but Angie helped Natalia understand Rebecca's choices. Rebecca's health started to rapidly decline and she was admitted to the hospital. Angie acted against Rebecca's wishes and revived her, although David Hayward threatened Angie's career over the decision.
Rebecca's doctor informed her she had a bit of time left and she decided to explore her treatment options and she started chemotherapy. After about one month of treatment, Rebecca learned the chemotherapy was not working and chose to stop the treatments. She told Natalia and the rest of the Hubbard family she was returning to Denver and would continue to battle her cancer there. Natalia offered to go with her but Rebecca refused her offer. Rebecca passed away in a hospital in Denver a few days after she left Pine Valley.
