Just one week after announcing that Tanya Boyd (Celeste Perrault) would be reprising her role on Days of our Lives comes word that the NBC soap has been forced to do a last-minute recast.
The Internet was abuzz over the weekend with reports that Boyd has been suffering from medical problems. A DAYS spokesperson refutes those claims.
"Reports are incorrect," the rep tells Soap Central. "We were unable to move forward with Tanya due to scheduling conflicts."
Boyd debuted as Celeste in 1994.
With Boyd unavailable, Days of our Lives put out a casting call to fill the role. In the notice, DAYS revealed that it is seeking a "65-75-year-old gorgeous African American female" who is a "very strong established name actor who can really dive into this material and make it their own."
Entertainment Weekly reports that DAYS has hired Beverly Todd to take on the role. Todd has appeared in the feature films Crash and The Bucket List. She also also appeared in numerous television programs, including Benson, Falcon Crest, and, most recently, Grey's Anatomy.
Todd has already reported for work, and will first air, on a recurring basis, in early April. She is expected to air over the course of about ten episodes.
