This week's wedding between Days of our Lives' Chad (Billy Flynn) and Abigail (Kate Mansi) is proving to be quite a special occasion for fans of the NBC soap, and what makes it all the more awe-inspiring is that Kate Mansi actually wrote the bride's wedding vows herself.
In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, the actress reveals that she wasn't hugely supportive of what was originally written and decided to give the words her own spin. "I didn't think we were giving it enough of Abby; it was like saying somebody else's words," she says of the original vows. "I think it was over a hiatus when I got the script. I rewrote them and I went to [co-executive producer] Albert [Alarr] and said, 'I know it's the day of the wedding, and things are crazy, but could you please let me say these vows once on camera and if you don't like it, we can take it all out. I've memorized both versions, so it is totally your call.'"
In the end, the powers that be trusted in Mansi's intuition about her character and agreed to use her words in the ceremony -- which serves as a very personal way to help wrap up the actress' time in Salem as she prepares to make her final on-screen appearance later this year.
