The rumors were true, Days of our Lives fans. Freddie Smith is indeed returning to Salem as Justin and Adrienne's son, Sonny Kiriakis.
Buzz about the possibility of the Ohio native being back started happening several months ago, and a photo of DAYS actors that seemingly showed Smith on set in the background only fanned the flames. And lucky for fans of the actor, it turns out he has indeed reprised the role he took on in 2011.
According to the new issue of Soap Opera Digest, Smith started filming months ago and will first air in July. Exact details about why the character is returning to the canvas are still under wraps, but Smith gives the publication some teases. Will Sonny be reconnecting with his ex, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean)? And what about those rumors that Emmy winner Chandler Massey might be returning to the show?
As fans may recall, Smith's last appearance in Salem was in late 2015 for the funeral of his husband, Will (Guy Wilson), who was murdered by the Necktie Killer (Rob Scott Wilson's Ben Weston).
