Days of our Lives is starting 2018 out with a bang: Leann Hunley has reprised the role of Anna DiMera and will hit the screen this Friday, January 5.
The actress, who originally took on her Salem alter ego in 1982, reports that she got the call to return in June and taped her material in July and August.
"I had some meaty stuff to do. It was fun," she shared with Soap Opera Digest of her return stint, adding that she was thrilled to find out that the storyline has Anna reconnecting with her first husband, Roman - - even though the character is now played by Josh Taylor rather than Wayne Northrop.
"It's so funny because the last time I worked with Josh in scenes that I remember actually having dialogue with him, he was Chris Kositchek [the role he played from 1977-87]," she says. "When I was there before, Anna was married to Wayne Northrop's Roman. But it was great. It was nice to work with Josh after all these years. Anna and Roman are characters who did have affection for each other, they were married and had a child, so it was very fun to revisit some of that."
Hunley has quite a history with DAYS. Her first stint as Anna ran from 1982 to 1986. After a twenty-one year absence, the Daytime Emmy Award winner reprised the role in June of 2007 and remained on contract until April 2009. She reprised the role again in a recurring capacity in early December 2009 and ultimately left once more in June of 2010. Her last DAYS appearance was in January and February of 2017, when Marlena (Deidre Hall) ran into Anna in Prague while on the hunt for Stefano.
