Days of our Lives viewers were given a jolt when Stefan DiMera suddenly woke up during Dr. Rolf's (Richard Wharton) Frankenstein-like experiment during the Monday, August 22, episode of the NBC soap opera. It was a nerve-wracking moment that portrayer Brandon Barash says made him feel like he was in an entirely different project.
"It honestly felt like a Hulk moment," he enthuses in the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest. "So, I kind of ran with that when we taped it and went real big. I don't know if anybody was expecting it, but it seemed to work."
The actor goes on to explain that half the fun of being an actor is bringing your own feelings and observations to the table and finding a way to make the material as believable as possible.
"You have to use your imagination and think, 'Okay, if I was essentially dead for years and then woke up in Dr. Frankenstein's lab, what would the reaction be?'" he explains. "And it would be more of a survival reaction than a cerebral reaction... the gist of it is 'What the f**k am I doing there? What's going on?'"
Fans are curious to know how Stefan will process and deal with the extraordinarily creepy resurrection he's experienced, and while Barash previously teased that his return as Stefan would kick off a huge revenge storyline, that won't be happening immediately. After all, the character first has to figure out how to survive in his new reality!
"There's a lot of adrenaline coursing through Stefan's veins, maybe more adrenaline than blood at this point," the actor teases. "He's feeling almost superhuman. Every single survival instinct in his body is kind of coming to the surface."
