Those whispers about Steve Burton returning to daytime were true! Well, sort of. The Emmy-winning actor will be returning to the world of soaps, but he won't be donning his iconic black T-shirt and leather jacket.
Burton will be reprising his role as Harris Michaels, the character he most recently played on season two of Peacock's Beyond Salem. Burton previously played the role on Days of our Lives during a short stint in 1988.
According to People, Burton will have a "thrilling new storyline" and will be working with cast veterans Stephen Nichols, Mary Beth Evans, Deidre Hall, and Drake Hogestyn.
No further storyline details have been made available, but there is a promise of "more mystery, high-stakes adventure, and romance."
Burton's return to soaps comes a year after Burton was released from General Hospital for not complying with the show's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Burton said at the time that he "did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied, which, you know, hurts."
In recent days, there had been speculation that Burton would be returning to the ABC soap. While that doesn't seem to be the case anytime soon, Burton remains optimistic that "[m]aybe one day... I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor."
As a reminder for fans of Burton who might not be regular Days of our Lives viewers, the soap no longer airs on NBC. To watch DAYS, you'll need a subscription to the Peacock streaming service. You can learn more about that here - and you'll have some time to get signed up. A first airdate for Burton has not yet been announced, but fans can expect him to pop up "early next year."
