In August 2022, Days of our Lives fans learned that they'd soon have to pay to watch their favorite soap. NBC announced it would stop airing the now 58-year-old soap in September, with DAYS making its Peacock streaming debut on September 12.
At the time, Peacock offered a limited-time rate for new subscribers of $1.99/month or just $19.99 paid upfront for the full year. Regular Peacock Premium rates eventually increased to $5.99/month or $59.99 for the year. If you wanted to skip commercials, you could pay $11.99 for Peacock Premium Plus or $119.99 for twelve months. Now comes word that those prices are going to be hiked.
According to Variety, Peacock Premium subscribers will soon have to pay $7.99/month or $79.99 for the year, while Premium Plus customers will pay $13.99/month or $139.99 annually. The change is set to take place in July, just before the Summer Olympics.
Before DAYS made its way to Peacock, its mini-series spinoff Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem premiered on the streamer in 2021, with a second installment in 2022. The specials were so successful that the entire show was moved to streaming, with NBC executive Mark Lazarus explaining the strategic move.
"This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers," he said in a statement. "With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show's loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers."
