General Hospital could be on the precipice of a big change behind the scenes. Rumor has it former Days of our Lives head writer Christopher Whitesell is about to rejoin the ABC soap's writing team.

Daytime Confidential reports that the Emmy-winning scribe, who served as GH's co-head writer for a brief time back in 1997, is thisclose to inking a deal with the series. But rest assured when it comes to the show's current head writers, Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman. It seems Whitesell would be signing on as breakdown writer, not replacing the women as head writer.

Whitesell's daytime credits include associate head writer of Guiding Light from 1984 to 1986, breakdown writer for As the World Turns from 1987 to 1988, associate head writer for ATWT from 1988 to 1991 and again from 1995 to 1996, associate head writer and co-head writer of GH in 1997, co-head writer of Sunset Beach from 1998 to 1999, associate head writer of One Life to Live from 1993 to 1995, associate head writer of DAYS from 2000 to 2001, co-head writer of OLTL from 2001 to 2003, co-head writer of ATWT from 2005 to 2007, co-head writer of DAYS from 2008 to 2011 and again from 2005 to 2007, and breakdown writer for The Young and the Restless from 2011 to 2012 (all dates according to Wikipedia).

Whitesell has won several Daytime Emmy Awards during his long career in the daytime industry.

If added, Whitesell would be the first addition to the GH writing team since August when Daniel J. O'Connor exited for a primetime opportunity and Kate Hall joined The Young and the Restless' writing team.
