The soap world has lost another of its stars. 52-year-old Gerald Anthony (ex-Marco Dane, One Life to Live and General Hospital) died on May 28, 2004. The details of his death were not released.
On her fan hotline, former co-star Robin Strasser (Dorian Lord) said Anthony was "a superb human being, a great actor, so much fun to be around, so mesmerizing in his choices as an actor." She added, "Let's say a prayer for Gerry and remember him with the joy and fondness he deserves."
Anthony appeared as Marco Dane on One Life to Live from 1977 through 1986 and again in 1989 and 1990. He then took his One Life to Live role to ABC's General Hospital from 1992 to 1993 and won an Outstanding Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy for his work on General Hospital in 1993.
In addition to his work in front of the cameras on ABC's daytime lineup, Anthony also served as a director for All My Children. He also appeared as Rick Madison on Another World from 1991 through 1992. He also made appearances in the movies To Die Standing and The Secret of the Ice Cave.
One Life to Live paid tribute to Anthony at the close of its June 24th episode.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as Gerald Anthony Bucciarelli, Anthony is survived by his mother, Marie; sisters Mary Lou Bruno and Josephine Grignon; nieces Cassi and Carly Bruno and Francesca Grignon.
