Big news for fans of former One Life to Live star Nathan Fillion (ex-Joey Buchanan): the daytime alum has been scooped up by James Gunn's superhero flick Suicide Squad.
Fillion, who currently stars in ABC's The Rookie, is a natural fit for the DC Comics film, given that he has an established working history with Gunn. He voiced a monstrous inmate in Guardians of the Galaxy, played Bill Pardy in Gunn's 2006 horror comedy Slither, and was the Holy Avenger in the filmmaker's 2010 film Super.
Fillion's role in Suicide Squad is being kept under wraps at this time, but he is joining an impressive roster of talent for the film. Previously announced cast members include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, and Steve Agee as King Shark.
In addition to playing OLTL's Joey from 1994 to 1997 and again in 2007, Fillion starred on eight seasons of ABC's Castle and has been a part of many major TV series, including Desperate Housewives, Santa Clarita Diet, Firefly, Big Mouth, and The Venture Bros..
Suicide Squad was written by Gunn, with Chuck Roven and Peter Safran in producing roles and Nik Korda acting as executive producer. Production starts on September 23 with a theatrical release slated for August 6, 2021.
