A chorus of Broadway celebrities -- including some of our favorite daytime stars -- raised their voices in song in response to the June 12 Orlando shooting massacre. The result is a soaring rendition of the Hal David/Burt Bacharach song "What the World Needs Now is Love."
The song has been released as a benefit single via Broadway Records. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
Check out the star-studded video for the song recorded on June 15 at Avatar Studios by Playbill. It features Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline Williamson, One Life to Live) and daytime faves Rosie O'Donnell (ex-Naomi, All My Children), Whoopi Goldberg (The View), Norm Lewis (ex-Keith McLean, AMC), and Wayne Brady (Let's Make A Deal).
Playbill was on hand to capture the moment for an accompanying music video of the song, which is produced by Seth Rudetsky, James Wesley, and Van Dean of Broadway Records.
"What the World Needs Now Is Love" was originally released in 1965 with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach. Over the years, it has been recorded by such acts as Dionne Warwick, the Supremes, Luther Vandross, Barry Manilow, and Coldplay.
