The explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger was one of the biggest news stories of 1986, but the year Ronald Reagan reigned supreme was also the year CBS Daytime slipped into the number one position on the daytime lineup -- a lofty spot it has held for the last 30 years.
The network ended the 2015-2016 season in the number one position yet again, a milestone Angelica McDaniel, Executive Vice President, Daytime Programs, CBS Television, couldn't be more proud of. "This winning streak is an incredible source of pride for all of us at CBS," she said in a statement. "It speaks to three decades of great storytelling from the best creative artists in front of and behind the camera, and the amazing support from a very passionate fan base."

The Young and the Restless managed to pull in 5.2 million viewers, keeping it anchored in the position of daytime's most-watched daily drama. The Bold and the Beautiful landed firmly in second place with 3.96 million viewers.

Is 30 years at number one really a big deal? Well, CBS Daytime's achievement is so monumental, the Los Angeles City Council proclaimed September 20th CBS Daytime Day. A celebration included Y&R's Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters), B&B's Heather Tom (Katie Logan) and Don Diamont (Bill Spencer), B&B and Y&R co-creator Lee Phillip Bell, and The Price is Right host Drew Carey.
