Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, and raised in Los Angeles and Manhattan, Darlene is of Cuban, Hungarian and Spanish descent. She changed her last name to Dahl because she thought Tejeiro would be too difficult to pronounce. A student of the Lee Strasberg Institute of Theater and the City University of New York, Tejeiro completed a film in Europe entitled "My Mother's Courage," about one woman's struggle during the Holocaust, before signing on as Anita on "All My Children."
Tejeiro won the role of Anita after she completed a mass mailing of her head shot and resume to every agent, agency and casting director she could find. As she puts it, "I used my brother's computer for three days nonstop. The responses I got were amazing."
A dancing enthusiast, Tejeiro enjoys ballet and tap and currently is learning flamenco and samba. Additionally, she plans to continue her education and pursue her theater degree part-time.
