Max Gail joined the cast of General Hospital in 2018 as a recast for the character of Mike Corbin, the father of famous mobster Sonny Corinthos. His powerful portrayal of a man struggling with Alzheimer's Disease earned him the 2019 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Gail was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 5, 1943, with the name Maxwell Trowbridge Gail Jr. He attended Williams College and was later an instructor at the University of Liggett School before he decided to seriously pursue a career in acting. This led to many stage and television roles, including parts in series like Walker, Texas Ranger, Cannon, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, The Drew Carey Show, Hawaii Five-0, Quantum Leap, NCIS, Scorpion and Mad Men.
However, Gail is arguably best known for his role as Detective Stan "Wojo" Wojciehowicz on the 1970s sitcom Barney Miller, which earned him two consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category.
Gail has been married two times. His first wife, Willie Bier, died of cancer in 1986, which reportedly inspired the actor to narrate the alternate medicine documentary Hoxsey: When Healing Becomes a Crime. He and his second wife, Nan Harris, have two children -- Maxwell and Grace -- who are siblings to India, whom he fathered with Bier before her death.
Gail runs a production company called Full Circle, which has featured documentaries on subjects like Agent Orange, nuclear issues, and Native Americans.
