Fans of The Young and the Restless can't get enough of Marla Adams (Dina Mergeron) on their screens, which is no surprise considering she's been delivering some of the most beautiful soap opera work of the decade. But how does the actress feel about watching her own work?
Soap Central caught up with Adams, who was still riding the high of the Y&R storyline that featured a theater screening of a film all about Dina, and asked her about some of her most exciting movie roles. She can still recall what it felt like to see herself on the big screen next to some of Hollywood's most beloved stars.
"I saw myself in the theater in Splendour in the Grass, which was with Natalie Wood, and it was Warren Beatty's first movie. I played her girlfriend, June," the actress recalls. "That was quite the film, and it still plays all the time on cable. I did that before I did soap operas. And then I was in another movie called Gotcha!, and that was also wonderful fun. I played the mother of Anthony Edwards. So I watched both of them in the theater, and I have copies of both of them. And I also watch them on television sometimes when they come on again. It's interesting watching yourself, because you go, 'Oh, I did that? I didn't know!' Mostly I feel favorably about it. But of course, I was much younger then and I don't look quite like that anymore! [Laughs]"
Even though she has years of experience under her belt in both film and television, Adams still watches her own performances in order to take note of issues and improve her performances. In fact, she confesses that she watches her Y&R scenes all the time.
"I watch with a critical eye and I'll say, 'Oh, well I'm not crazy about this,' or, 'Boy, you did a good job,' and I kiss my hand," she says with a laugh. "It's very productive, and I find watching [my performances in a critical way] very satisfying."
