The Young and the Restless' Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair) is excited to talk about her new action film, Sworn Justice: Taken Before Christmas, which will drop on Thursday, November 16 on BET+. The actress promises that it's not your mother's Hallmark Christmas movie. "It's more like the Black Die Hard!" Morgan revealed.
Morgan recently spoke to Soap Opera Digest as she shared juicy details about her upcoming movie in which she plays undercover detective Sophie Porter, who was reassigned to desk duty after landing in hot water over a past entanglement. "She's also starting a new relationship, but she doesn't really want to commit yet," Morgan said. The actress explained that the plot centered around the kidnapping of Sophie's "new not-really-boyfriend" on Christmas Eve, and the kidnapping appeared to be linked to some of Sophie's old undercover cases.
Morgan confessed that she had enjoyed playing Sophie Porter because it was fun to play someone who was tough and gritty and who had endured dark things in her past. "If you remember, Hilary [Curtis, the first role Morgan played on Y&R], she was pushy all of the time, so to play somebody who's the complete opposite was fun," the actress said.
Initially, Morgan hadn't been interested in the role because she believed that Christmas movies tended to be very similar to soaps in terms of dialogue and pacing, which was why she felt that she wouldn't be stretching herself by doing the movie. However, her agent persisted, and eventually, she agreed to look at the script. After reading the first page, she changed her mind.
Morgan admits that despite the hitting, punching, kicking, and shooting throughout the movie, she walked away with just two minor bruises. She also credited her stunt double for performing the heavy-duty stuff and spending hours practicing with Morgan. The actress was also impressed by how her stunt double had been able to mimic her movements to the point it had been hard to tell the difference between them in the scenes. "She was amazing," Morgan said.
Y&R fans will recognize another familiar face in the movie because Vivica A. Fox (ex-Stephanie Simmons) co-starred as Sophie's mother. "We had a lot of fun working together and I learned so much from her," Morgan shared. She also revealed that she and Fox had talked about Y&R and how their characters had both been involved with Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John). "We'll definitely stay in touch," Morgan said.
Is a sequel possible? Morgan explained that it would have to depend on how well this one was received, but she would love to return as Sophie Porter. In the meantime, check out the trailer for Sworn Justice: Taken Before Christmas below.
Morgan made her Y&R debut in June 2013 as Hilary Curtis. Five years later, the actress stunned fans by walking away from the show. She returned to Y&R in September 2019 to play Amanda Sinclair, a character that turned out to be Hilary's theretofore-unknown twin sister.
