Abby was born on the day that her mother Ashley was to marry Brad Carlton. Brad and Ashley were thrilled with the healthy baby girl, and were devoted to her. Ashley had refused to name Abby's father initially, but finally claimed it was her old friend Christian. Brad adopted Abby as a baby, and Abby grew to be a precocious child. After young Abby overhead that Victor Newman was her biological father, she was the one to tell him. Abby soon formed a strong bond with Victor, although it didn't lessen her love for Brad.
Although Brad initially won custody of Abby during their divorce, he returned her to Ashley, who took Abby with her when she left to work in Hong Kong. Abby later returned to the United States with her mother, and although she continued to see Brad from time to time, they lived in Los Angeles where Ashley worked for Forrester Creations.
After a breakup with Ridge Forrester, Ashley and Abby moved to London. Then in 2008, Ashley reunited with Victor Newman and moved into the Newman Ranch with him. Abby soon followed, much older, horse-loving and very sophisticated.
In late January of 2009, Brad died a hero after he pulled Noah Newman from the hole in the ice on the lake, when Brad fell through himself and drowned. Abby was devastated by the news. A Jewish service was held with the immediate family, Brad's daughters Colleen and Abby, and his ex-wives Traci, Victoria, and Ashley. Brad’s will gave his mother an undisclosed share, and Colleen and Abby half of the remainder of his estate. Colleen was named the Trust-holder until Abby became of age.
In 2009, Abby's sister Colleen was kidnapped by Patty Williams, and she fell out of a boat and drowned. Colleen was buried next to her father Brad, her heart donated to save the life of Abby's father Victor Newman. Brad's mansion was inherited by Abby at Colleen's death.
Abby began acting defiant to her mother in reaction to the deaths of Brad and Colleen, and blamed Ashley for losing Victor to divorce. Convinced that everyone did what they pleased without consequences, Abby began looking for attention in guys too old for her, like Ryder Callahan.
In May 2010, as her mother Ashley was upstairs accepting the position of CEO of Jabot from Tucker McCall, Abby was staging a protest in the lobby against Jabot's use of animals for testing. Abby pulled off her coat and exposed her nude body to reporters and photographers as she shouted, “My name is Abby Newman. I'd rather be naked than wear fur!” Later she met Kent, a guy who was helping her to get her own reality TV show “The Naked Heiress”. Abby expected to get her inheritances from Brad, Colleen, and Victor to finance it, but Ashley and Victor refused. So Abby charged an $80,000 piece of jewelry and gave it to Kent to hock, then hired Rafe to sue for her inheritances. Abby began working on her uncles Jack for financing and Billy for exposure in his magazine, Restless Style. When Billy said no to posting the video they made of Victor and Ashley denying Abby her inheritance, Abby found a video of Billy and Victoria’s impulsive Jamaican wedding to use as leverage. Abby Newman hired Rafe Torres to sue her parents. Abby’s lawsuit went to court, and the judge, seeing what a spoiled brat she had become, gave condolences to them and ruled in favor of her parents.
The day his divorce papers arrived, Daniel Romalotti fell into the conniving arms of Abby Newman. They made out in the Newman pool, and were caught still there the next morning by Nikki and Phyllis. As Abby begged them not to tell Victor and Ashley, a video of them had already been sent by Abby to her manager to publicize it. At Katherine and Murphy’s 4th of July picnic, Abby was discovered surrounded by press while floating naked in the Chancellor soap bubble-filled pool to symbolize a polluted river to save the otters. Daniel covered her up and pulled her out, Ashley told her she was ashamed of her, and Katherine tossed her off the estate. Abby then talked her uncle Billy into a photo shoot and lead story on “The Naked Heiress” for the next issue of Restless Style. She and Daniel did the semi-nude and suggestive shoot together, but Abby was livid when one of their milder photos made the cover, and her story had been bumped. But it still got her a lot press, and convinced Daniel to do a nude painting of her.
After Kent dropped Abby’s reality show idea due to lack of funds, Abby was even more determined to get her inheritances, but Victor told her she was not mature enough to handle her money yet. Jack stopped her from selling the mansion she was left by Brad and Colleen, and suggested that she use her number two Newman stockholder position as leverage. She tried, but Victor shot it down. So Abby staged another protest, interrupting Victor and Nikki’s engagement party by riding into the Genoa City Athletic Club dining room nude upon her horse Pericles, as Daniel recorded her on video. Victor smashed the camera, tossed a robe over her, and told her it was not going to work. So she threatened to sell her million-dollar horse. The club manager called the police and had Abby arrested. Abby was thrilled for the publicity, until she found herself stuck in jail four days awaiting her arraignment. But Daniel got Jack to bail her out. Abby informed her mother that the mansion where they lived was hers and kicked her out, so Ashley moved home to Abbott Manor. She and Victor relented and gave Abby a substantial check from her trust, but she turned it down, demanding it all.
Abby saw opening night for the new jazz club, Gloworm, as another opportunity for exposure. She stripped and took a dip and posed for photos in a giant champagne glass that was part of the décor.
Abby hired Vance Abrams to sue Victor for mismanagement of her trust. Victor tried to dissolve the trust, but Vance had put a freeze on it. Abby dropped the lawsuit after seeing Victor have Victoria arrested on her wedding day to get what he wanted. After Jack gave Abby evidence that Victor had used money from each of his children’s trusts to pay his fine for a bribery charge, Abby re-filed her lawsuit for three billion dollars, and served the papers to Victor herself. When she told Victoria about it, she joined Abby in the lawsuit, but Nick refused. On the anniversary of Colleen’s death, Victor was reminded that getting her heart had not changed him, so he offered a settlement. He asked Victoria to return to Newman and offered to let Abby create an entertainment division for her reality television show. Saying they could not be bought and wanted to be independent, they turned down the offer. They went into mediation, and Victor made them another offer for half of what they had asked. But Victoria decided she wanted Beauty of Nature instead, Abby went along with it, and Victor turned them down flat. At a stalemate, the judge ordered an audit of the Newman books to decide how much money had been mismanaged and if Beauty of Nature was a reasonable settlement. Victor refused and was about to be hauled off to jail, when they were stopped by attorney Heather Stevens, whose campaign Victor was financing. Heather said the case was being reheard by a higher court, and later confided in Victor that she hoped this favor would not reflect badly on her career and campaign for District Attorney. Unfortunately for Heather, Billy Abbott found out and accused her on the Restless Style webzine of using her office to grant Victor favors, and she dropped out of the race in disgrace. Victor later lost the appeal, and his company financial records were seized.
Daniel had an important showing of his art at a gallery in Genoa City, so Abby persuaded well-known art critic Mark Fletcher to show up by promising an appearance by “the naked heiress.” But in an unusually generous moment wanting Daniel to be taken seriously, she didn’t remove her clothes. Mark was placated when he realized how impressive Daniel’s art was. Mark later connected Daniel with an important Chicago gallery owner who commissioned six new pieces.
For Billy Abbott’s 2010 Halloween party, Daniel went as Vincent Van Gough, bloody ear and all, and Abby went as Lady Gaga. Just before they left for the party, Daniel showed Abby his final divorce decree which Amber had finally filed, and he thanked Abby for not nagging him to commit to their relationship, and keeping it just fun. But later at the party, Daniel admitted he was falling for Abby and wanted an exclusive relationship with her. Daniel and Abby returned to his loft to find Daisy Callahan sitting inside in the dark. When they turned on the lights, a very pregnant Daisy came forward and announced that she was carrying Daniel’s child. Even though Daniel was tricked, Abby and Daniel broke up over this, but they remained close as Daniel awaited the birth of his daughter, her adoption, and Daisy being sentenced to prison.
Nick joined his sisters in their lawsuit against Victor for mismanaging their trusts. Victor worked on Nick, telling him that if they won their lawsuit, Victor would be forced to take Newman public, they would only get a one-time settlement with no future profits, and they would no longer be a part of the company. Victor threatened that their legacy to their children would be that they destroyed Newman as a family business, and that hundreds of people would lose their jobs because of the greed of his children. Desperate to make sure he did not lose the lawsuit, Victor convinced his other son Adam to claim that he had forged their new trust agreements during the time when Victor was supposedly dead and Adam had control of Newman. But Neil testified that when Adam was in charge at Newman, Neil had kept Adam from accessing anything that would have made the forgery possible. The judge awarded Abby, Victoria, and Nick five hundred million dollars each, and ordered Adam arrested for perjury. Victor left with Michael, demanding that he find a way to overrule the judge's decision. The Newman children left to celebrate, but found it difficult when they realized and felt guilty that the verdict had come down on their father's birthday.
It didn’t take long for Abby's old manager to hear about her settlement, and to appear on the scene, ready to begin production of the Naked Heiress reality show. Abby called a press conference and stripped on camera for the occasion while he and Daniel watched admiringly. The police arrived, and Abby was arrested again. Ashley went to bail her out, but Victor beat her to it. Abby showed up at the ranch later to thank Victor and apologize. But instead of accepting his children's settlement offer, Victor held a press conference to announce that he was taking Newman public. Victoria and Nick were arranging to buy up stock, but Abby just wanted her settlement in cash.
After repeated attempts to talk her mother out of marrying Tucker McCall, the day before their wedding, Abby got drunk and trashed the park which was decorated for the wedding before passing out in a fountain. Awakened by police, Abby was arrested for vandalism. Victor and Ashley met Abby at the jail, and vowed to let her sit there as a lesson, but Tucker talked her into behaving herself, and she was released. Later a rehearsal dinner was held at Gloworm, where Abby played nice to Tucker's face, but was hatching a plot to expose him as a philanderer to her mother. She sent a text message to Diane Jenkins from Tucker's phone to meet him at the Abbott cabin, and one to Tucker from Malcolm's phone to meet him there for his bachelor party. After the dinner, Abby, instead of driving her mother home, drove her to the Abbott cabin. When Ashley realized how drunk Abby was, she attempted to get her to stop the car, but in their struggle, Abby stepped on the accelerator just as Tucker was walking across the road, and he was struck by the car. Diane was behind them in her car and was first on the scene to tell the police what she had seen, an apparently drunk driver who appeared to purposely run a man down. After Ashley and Abby were pulled from the wreckage, to protect Abby, Ashley told them that she had been driving.
Tucker's condition was critical with a fractured skull and subdural hematoma. After surgery, Tucker lapsed into a coma. Ashley was fine, but Abby was still unconscious. Following Tucker's DNR instructions, the doctors took him off the ventilator, expecting him to die. But his mother Katherine made Tucker breathe by shear willpower.
Abby recovered and admitted to Ashley that she had set up Tucker and Diane to show Ashley that he was not worthy of her. Realizing that she had been the driver, Abby felt so guilty that she tried to confess, but was not believed. So Abby made a Naked Heiress video confessing that she had run down Tucker. Victor tried to stop it, and the tape mysteriously disappeared. Abby went to Victor and offered to give him back her settlement money, hoping it would atone for all the havoc she had caused. Instead, Victor arranged for Abby to be admitted to a rehab facility in Connecticut. Abby had a surprise visit from Noah who told Abby that the attempted murder charges had been dropped against Ashley. So Abby checked herself out and returned home with Noah. Abby attempted to get back together with Daniel, but he was no longer interested in being the exploited boyfriend of "The Naked Heiress".
While Abby was in rehab, Ashley and Tucker were married in his hospital room without telling anyone. During Jabot's national launch of its new cactus pectin product line and new Jabot logo which was held at Fenmore's, a reporter asked about their recent marriage, shocking the family and friends who had not yet been told. When asked, Abby covered by telling reporters that rehab had made her realize that her mom deserved to be happy.
Victoria came up with the idea of using Abby's "Naked Heiress" persona as spokesperson for Beauty of Nature, Victor approved with the stipulation that she would keep her clothes on, but the idea was dropped when it was discovered that Abby's video confession of running over Tucker still existed. Victor instead offered Abby a job learning the ropes at Newman. Instead, Abby announced to Ashley that she was going to finally grow up and return to college.
Eventually Ashley reconciled with Tucker, moved back in with him, and made plans to marry. Abby agreed to be Ashley's maid of honor, and Jack walked Ashley down the aisle. Abby stepped in for Ashley on a product promotion tour for Jabot while Ashley went on her honeymoon. Abby called from Los Angeles, and came through for Devon to finance his new recording company.
When Cane and Lily decided to remarry, Lily chose Abby and Traci to stand up for her in Colleen's memory. But when the wedding was moved to France as a gift from Katherine, Traci bowed out, and Abby became Lily's maid of honor.
Asked by Jack to invest in Beauty of Nature, and to work there with him, Abby agreed and gently broke the news to Victor. Abby also agreed to invest, along with Katherine and Gloria, in Kevin and Chloe's public bulletin board website.
Katherine decided to step down and turned the chairmanship of the 2012 Arts Council gala over to Chloe and Abby. They clashed immediately, although in time they began working together well. By the date of the gala, singer Angelina had backed out of her appearance, and Carmen Basco had sabotaged the arrival of tables, chairs and decorations. Attendees began receiving text messages that the gala had been postponed. Abby was mortified over what it would do to her image. After taking Chloe to the alley on the pretense that he had heard the truck, Carmine locked Chloe in the trunk of his car. While he went back inside for his forgotten cell phone, Abby let Chloe out. While Chloe went to call the police, Abby took her place in the trunk. Abby began to tweet her fans that she had been kidnapped and to call the police, hoping to take the spotlight off the failed gala. Carmine heard the news broadcast that he was suspected of kidnapping Abby. He stopped and let her out of the trunk, and offered to take her home. Abby flirted with Carmine and got him all flustered. Abby took over, threw their cell phones away so they could not be tracked, and made him check into a motel under an assumed name.
Tucker came to comfort Ashley at the Newman ranch and held her while she grieved her daughter's kidnapping, but Victor was convinced that it was publicity stunt. At the motel, Carmine and Abby began calling each other names, each accused the other of pulling a boneheaded move. Abby promised to go public the following day. Under pressure from Ashley, Victor relented and hired a helicopter and brought in the FBI to find Abby. After circumstances went from bad to worse with no cash and no change of clothes but the overalls Carmine had bought her, and Carmine making her feel guilty for scaring her mother, Abby called Ashley and admitted the hoax. But intrigued by Carmine, Abby decided not to tell him, and continued to stay at the motel with him. Ashley was furious, and spread the word among the Abbotts and Newmans. Abby assured Carmine that she had his back when it came to getting them out of trouble, she kissed him, and he kissed her back. But they were arrested when they arrived home, Abby for misuse of emergency services since she had gotten her fans to call 911, and Carmine for the attempted abduction of Chloe. Chloe, Kevin, Ashley and Victor were glad to hear that Abby had been arrested and refused to help her this time. Abby hired Rafe as her lawyer and Rafe, the D.A., and FBI agreed that Abby would pay a $100,000 fine. But Carmine and his public defender got no deal. Only Kyle Abbott was there to pick up Abby when she was released, and he cheered her up by showing her the front page headline "Naked Heiress Kidnapping Hoax". Abby then hired Rafe to represent Carmine, who was released on bail. Confronting Abby at the athletic club basketball court, Carmine accused her of being a cold bitch. Abby took Carmine into the bushes where she convinced him that she was certainly not cold. Abby later apologized to Katherine Chancellor for spoiling the gala and secretly repaid her for all the donations she would have received.
Abby left town to live in New York City with Traci, and returned to Genoa City five months later. She visited Jack, and after assuring him that she had finally grown up, Abby asked to join him working at Jabot. Abby was hoping to take up where she left off with Carmine, but he told her that he had moved on. Later, reuniting with Noah where he was bartending at The Underground, Abby flirted with recently-fired New York City police detective, Alex Chavez. Alex was hired as a police detective by the GCPD and settled in Genoa City. Abby took Alex as her date to Victor and Nikki's remarriage after, and they became lovers.
After Adam and Victor made up and agreed to run Newman together, Victor announced their reunion to the family, asking Nick, Victoria, and Abby to return to the family business, but they declined. Abby later went to work for Jack in marketing at Jabot's new Face of Fashion division.
In the middle of one of their many arguments, Abby and Alex agreed to break it off, agreeing they were just not suited to each other, then decided on a "friends with benefits" relationship.
Playboy, Tyler Michaelson, threw a party at his apartment to celebrate his new job working remotely for a major design firm out of New York City. Abby flirted with him, so he invited her, and they ended up in a hot kiss. Realizing where it was headed, she turned down his advances, saying that she had changed, and would no longer jump into bed with every guy who turned her on. But after a few dates, they ended up spending the night together, shocking Noah when he woke up to find his aunt had spent the night with his roommate.
Tyler and Abby's romance grew, despite Tyler's usual reluctance to settle down to one woman. But his ex-fiancé Mariah continued to call and call, wanting Tyler to forgive her and reunite. Abby's birthday came around, and Victor made her a gift of a vice president nameplate for Newman-Chancellor, but Abby turned it down. Hoping to outdo Victor, Tyler made Abby peach cobbler and presented her with a telescope and a document for her own personalized star in the sky. Tyler finally realized it was time to began blocking Mariah's calls.
Abby and Tyler spent Christmas enjoying themselves in L.A. But while Tyler was taking a shower and Abby went out to shop, a female with a tattoo on her arm let herself into their hotel room. Abby returned in time to see her walk out, and accused Tyler of trysting with Mariah who lived in L.A. Back in Genoa City by New Year's Eve, Ashley gave Tyler the third degree over his intentions. Afterward in the park he suggested to Abby that they move in together, and she agreed, as the tattooed stalker looked on. Tyler and Abby put an offer on a house, but lost it when the realtor received a call from someone claiming to be "his girlfriend", saying that they had changed their minds. Viewers saw the stalker with the tattoo watching them at Crimson Lights.
Tyler and Abby looked at an apartment and decided they wanted it. Tyler left, and Abby was to return the key. Abby failed to come home that night, and Tyler found her locked in the apartment the next morning, getting in with the key which was still in the door. They found Abby's phone in the hallway where viewers had seen the tattooed woman smash it. Abby said she was certain that she had been locked in by Mariah, and walked out mad after finding Mariah's number back in Tyler's phone. Tyler texted Mariah, telling her to get the hell out of his life. Viewers saw the tattooed woman receive the text. Later when Tyler was about to delete her number, Abby grabbed the phone, called Mariah, and left a voice mail that she wanted to meet her. Abby later set up a lunch meeting for the three of them, but Mariah did not show up. Afterward, a relieved Tyler called Mariah that he was on his way over. Abby later went to see Mariah, but she had already checked out.
A rumor that Abby and Tyler were engaged began circulating on the Internet, but Abby swore to Victor that it was untrue. Victor warned Tyler that if he hurt his daughter, he would come after him. Later that night while partying at The Underground, Tyler proposed and Abby said yes. Victor approved, but insisted on a long engagement. When Lauren dropped out, Abby took her place as a model in the Chelsea by Jabot fashion show, and surprised Tyler by wearing the line's wedding gown.
Victor threw an engagement party for Abby and Tyler at Newman Ranch, and all the Newmans and Abbotts were in attendance and remarkably friendly. Tyler admitted that he had been pretty overwhelmed by all of them. Later Abby asked Victoria to be her matron of honor, and Tyler surprised Abby that he had asked attorney Leslie to draw up a pre-nup to protect Abby's money. Later, outside their hotel room, Abby ran into a person who looked just like her dead niece, Cassie. Having just found out that Victor had paid a Cassie lookalike to torment Sharon, Abby lit into her. But Abby was shocked when Tyler came out of the room and joined them, calling the young woman Mariah. Once Abby realized who she was, Abby let Tyler know that his former fiancé had been paid to drive Sharon Newman insane. Later Abby found a bracelet that Mariah had purposely dropped by the bed in their room, and promptly confronted Mariah, telling her that she was going to get Mariah arrested. Tyler had to break them up.
Later Abby and Tyler confronted Mariah together, and Abby tried to pay her to leave town. Mariah tore up the check and refused. So Abby told Victor about Mariah's interference in her life, and that she expected Victor to get rid of her. Finding out that Victor had Mariah arrested and extradited back to Portland, Tyler begged Leslie to go to Portland and defend her. Abby was shocked, and Tyler told her that he owed Mariah to keep her out of prison. When Tyler immediately went to Portland, Abby broke off their engagement, saying that Abby would never be first with him.
Finding out that Mariah was working at Nick's bar, The Underground, Abby attacked Mariah, telling her that she was not fooling anyone, calling her a skank, and saying that she may have Cassie's face, but she was trash inside. Abby later set Mariah up for the theft of Noah's wallet, but Noah found out and did not let Mariah be arrested.
More than a month after they split up, and since Abby would not return his calls, Tyler posed as a vendor to get Abby to meet him in the park and begged her for another chance. He pointed out that Abby had not officially announced their broken engagement, so maybe she did not really want to. As they talked about openness and honesty, Mariah chimed in that maybe Abby should be honest and tell Tyler about the wallet trick she had played on her. Tyler was outraged that Abby would stoop so low, knowing Mariah was innocent and would go to jail. He told Abby that he had thought she was nothing like Mariah, but that Abby could manipulate with the best of them, and maybe there was not a chance for them after all.
Abby decided to move on by taking Lily's suggestion and accepted a fancy brunch date with fellow millionaire Devon Winters, who shut down the rooftop deck of the athletic club for a private party for only the two of them. Afterward, Abby started to cry when Devon brought up something that reminded her of Tyler.
Abby had been nasty and spiteful to Dr. Ben Rayburn ever since she found out that he had killed his father as a teen and taken someone else's identity to get his degree in medicine, and had broken Victoria's heart. So Abby was shocked when her mother Ashley returned to Genoa City and hired Ben as a chemist for Jabot, despite Abby's objections. Ashley returned to New York City, tasking a reluctant Abby with bringing Ben up to speed on the cosmetics industry.
When New Year's Eve rolled around, Abby showed up with new Jabot model Lars, who could not even speak English. But she was shocked when Detective Mark Harding grabbed and kissed her at midnight. Abby got hold of a sample of the love potion from the lab and commented "this could be so fun." But Ashley caught her with it and made her return it. Abby admitted that she had taken it to use on Billy and Victoria to get them back together.
Noah, Kevin, Mariah, Summer, Austin, and Fenmore each received unsigned invitations to a Valentine Day party at Abbott cabin. After they arrived, they deduced that Abby was the hostess since she was the only Abbott there. Abby admitted that she had not wanted to be alone, and that they would never have come had they known. The group played a drinking game, "Never have I Ever", but when someone said "committed murder", Austin left the room upset. He told Summer it had reminded him of his mother. Courtney arrived, telling them that a snowstorm had closed the road behind her. Fen put a party drug in the punch which knocked everyone out, and they woke up to find Austin missing. They opened an armoire, and Austin's body fell out with blood on his head. Courtney tried to revive him, but declared him dead. Noah hugged a distraught Summer who suddenly remembered that she had hidden a brass bookend behind a sofa cushion, pulled it out, and screamed when she saw blood on it. Summer feared that she had killed Austin, but they reminded her that she could not have picked him up and stuffed him in the armoire.
Noah, Mariah, and Kevin suggested a cover-up to protect Summer. Courtney refused to be a part of it, as it would make her a dirty cop, but they talked her into it. The guys put Austin's body outside in the snow as if he had fallen, and his blood on a nearby rock. Mariah suddenly remembered seeing Austin and Abby kissing earlier. She confronted Abby who admitted the kiss, but swore that nothing had been going on between them. Mariah pointed out that if Summer had seen them, it would have been a perfect motive. Courtney called the police but lost the cell signal before she could tell them why. Fen went out to get a ladder to support their story, and discovered Austin's body was gone. When the police arrived, they were told that Kevin had fallen from the roof trying to shovel off the deep snow, Austin had gone for help, but had never come back. As the group left for town, they wondered if Austin was really dead, or if someone else had killed him and taken the body. The sheriff thought they had located Austin alive, trapped in a ravine, but it turned out to be Kyle who had come up to surprise them. Later that night, police broke the news to Summer that they had found Austin dead behind the wheel of a wrecked car, and Summer identified the body in the morgue.
Noah, Abby, Kyle, Mariah and Kevin comforted Summer as she watched Austin's videos on his laptop. One was of Austin telling Summer that rather than roses and candy Valentines, he needed to give her an apology. Saying that he did not like himself much lately, there was something she needed to know. But he never finished, as Summer had interrupted him. Another video started of Abby flirting with Austin, but Noah brushed if off as a project that Austin was working on. Fearing it would expose her relationship with Austin, Abby left. Abby recalled how their relationship began when she found Austin retreating at the Abbott cabin to get away from Summer. He told Abby how they would argue about Summer having too much money and insisting on spending it on things he never would want. Then the time in front of the fireplace when they became lovers, how Austin had told her that he wanted out of his marriage, but instead Abby had guiltily tried to end the affair. Kyle has told how he had returned to town, and after seeing them together, confronted Austin. They fought, and Kyle threw Austin a towel to wipe up his blood. After Austin's death, the bloody towel was found in Kyle's trunk by Kevin, Mariah, and Noah.
During Austin's memorial service, Summer suddenly remembered an argument she had witnessed while drugged that night at the cabin. Austin and Abby were admitting they were having an affair, and Austin wanting to tell Summer. After Summer thanked everyone for giving Austin a second chance, she glared at Abby and shouted, "YOU slept with my husband!" All eyes turned to Abby, who was mortified and ran out.
Summer and her friends returned to the cabin following Austin's memorial service, and the armoire was opened to reveal "I know what happened here" written in lipstick on the mirror inside. Abby threatened to go to the police with the truth. After viewing some of the deleted videos which Kevin had found and unencrypted on Austin's laptop, they began to believe that someone had killed Austin to keep their interview from being made public. Abby and Summer realized that Austin had been using both of them to get dirt on the Newmans and Abbotts for his exposé. Abby left but was attacked in the park where she was found unconscious by Ben, and "Shut up or you're next" scrawled on her cell. Ben took her home to stay with him and Victoria. But after another lipstick scrawl on their mirror saying "I'm always watching," Victoria insisted that Abby get a room at the athletic club with Ben staying next door.
Due to Austin's death, Noah began to realize that Courtney was the best thing to every happen to him, and surprised her with a marriage proposal. The wedding was arranged for Chancellor Park, with Summer and Nick standing up for them. When Courtney did not show up at the wedding, the young people all received a mysterious text asking them to meet her at the Abbott cabin. The group found Courtney dead in her wedding gown in the armoire at the cabin. A note in her hand said, "I warned you. Stop digging." Paul and the police showed up, and the group had to admit Austin had been murdered to explain Courtney's. Paul interviewed each and was appalled that none had come forward about murder, but understood that they had been threatened. No one in the group was arrested, but were told to keep their mouths shut, so the murderer would assume the police still thought Austin's death was an accident. Paul warned them not to mention the connection to Courtney or one of them could be next.
After Victoria walked in on Ben and Abby too many times in each other's arms, she decided that she and Ben were not meant to be, and they broke up. Ben told Abby the news, and they kissed, which led them to sex.
Jack and Victor decided to put their animosity in the past, and merged Jabot and Newman to create Newman-Abbott Enterprises. Victoria was made C.O.O., and she took over Ashley's office, relegating her to the lab, and reporting to Victoria. Both Abby and Ben ended up reporting to Victoria too, and Victoria began treating them less than fair when it became obvious that they had become lovers.
Fen suddenly returned from college and gathered his friends who were involved in the murder at the cabin. He admitted that prior to Austin's murder, he had been about to flunk a class, hacked into the college computers, and gave himself a passing grade so he could still get into law school. Fen had received an anonymous text blackmailing him into picking up a package containing the drug to spike the punch. Paul traced the DNA from the package to a wanted criminal named Marco Annicelli who used to head a South American drug cartel. The FBI got involved, and claimed the DNA did not match.
Abby, Summer and Kyle visited Tobias Gray in the hospital after he had crashed his car, asking why he was following them and what he knew about the murders. Tobias said, "You need to know...Austin..." and died. Meanwhile, Kevin and Mariah snuck into Tobias' place where they found a 3D printer, fingerprint molds, and the stolen GCPD hard drives. Kevin turned in an anonymous tip, but told Paul that he thought everything had been planted by the real killer. The FBI stepped in and matched the DNA originally thought to be Marco's, to Tobias. Paul closed the case, so Kevin leaked his theory to GC Buzz who published it. To keep it viable, Mariah secretly posted as the killer, "Catch me if you can or watch me get away with murder." Kevin was arrested for obstruction.
After his arrest for shooting Jack Abbott, Victor made Gabriel C.E.O. Gabriel made Abby C.O.O., promising Victoria a new position. But Gabriel allowed Billy to stay on as head of R&D, telling him to step it up. Neil quit his C.F.O. position, but Abby hired Nick over Gabriel's objection to take Neil's place. Chelsea was assigned to help Abby, and the two of them met with a trucking executive who was unimpressed with the two young chicks, but Abby won him over and got a contract with a 3% reduction in fees. Feeling confident in her executive abilities, Abby took over dealing with the warehouse workers labor dispute, and met with Guy Burke, negotiating a modest pay increase, and that all would have benefits. Afterward Abby suggested they celebrated with champagne and they left together. Later Mr. Burke turned up at the hospital all bruised, claiming that Abby had gotten so frisky he had lost control of his car and had an accident. Abby was hospitalized with minor injuries, but was very disappointed when Ben only gave her a kiss on the forehead when he had to leave. Billy angrily confronted her, saying the deal would kill the company. Later Gabriel and Victor agreed that the deal was not that bad, and they would stand by the agreement. Victor teamed competitors Abby and Victoria and sent them to speak before a technical conference. Their presentation was a big success. Jack and Victor drew up an agreement to dissolve the merger of Newman and Jabot. Abby was put on the spot to choose, and she chose to work for Newman.
Ben was crushed when he failed to save a fellow Marine named James, a PTSD survivor, whose heart had stopped. Feeling that he failed James, and Abby being out of town on business, Ben poured his heart out to Ashley, who set him straight about discontinuing being a doctor. Ben admitted that it was easier to talk to Ashley than her daughter Abby. After detective Mark Harding was discovered to be the killer and was killed, Abby decided to move back home and asked Ben to join her.
Abby was proud of herself for renaming Chelsea by Jabot to Chelsea 2.0, and excited when the yet non-existent clothing line began showing huge European online pre-sales. Victoria tried to reign her in, asking if they could even fulfill the commitments. Kevin opined that the continual sales spikes may be caused by a computer worm. Abby became very cocky, convinced that she was a super successful CEO.
Concerned that Abby was getting too involved in her work, Ben asked Abby to travel to Europe together. But after Victoria admitted that she and Ben had planned the trip, Abby accused them of plotting against her, got mad and broke up with Ben. The Newman quarterly reports showed that Chelsea 2.0 had dropped back to the level prior to the spike. After Ian Ward and Adam Newman, alive and posing as Gabriel Bingham after plastic surgery, were discovered to be behind the Paragon project, Abby talked Victor into giving Chelsea back her company.
Out of the blue, Ben began to propose to Abby, but they were interrupted by Ashley. Abby confided in her mother, saying that she intended to accept when he asked again. But in the end, Ashley gave them her blessing.
In 2015, the annual Delia Halloween costume party benefit was held at Top of the Tower, and everyone attended. Abby was dressed as a flapper. Ben discovered a fire in the electrical room, and opening the door caused an explosion, knocking him out. Ben awoke to no working fire alarm, firehose, or cell phone. He managed to make it to the top floor, and warned everyone at the party, prior to going back down to help others. Meanwhile, Abby stayed on the top floor, refusing to board the rescue helicopter, instead waiting for Ben. She finally went looking for him, and found him unconscious and pinned under rubble with Ashley at his side. They were found by Abby and rescued by Adam who carried Ben's unconscious body down the stairs and out the front door over his shoulders in a fireman's carry. Ben awoke in his hospital bed with Abby at his side.
Ben finally admitted to Abby that he and Ashley had exchanged I love you's during the fire, but did not mean it. Abby reacted badly and called off the wedding. But Ashley was able to convince Abby that she did not love Ben, and that Ben really loved and wanted to marry Abby. Abby began planning a New Year's Eve wedding, but the venue she wanted was booked for 2 years. Victor assured her that the Top of the Tower would be ready in time.
Ben was upset that his son Max was not being allowed to attend the wedding, but the New Year's Eve party/wedding was a well-attended beautiful occasion. Abby's hair and gown were lovely, the gown being a gift from Chelsea for convincing Victor to return Chelsea's company. The ceremony began with Dylan and Victoria standing up for them, Faith as flower girl, and Victor giving away the bride to flute and harp music. Ashley, who was escorted by Dr. Neville, fainted into the aisle, but she came to right away. Afterward both Ben and Dr. Neville showed concern to Ashley about her condition. Abby and Ben snuck out after the ceremony, and after making love, they left for their tropical honeymoon. But they cut it short when Billy got beaten up, hit by a car, and went in a coma. Another shock awaited in the form of Ben's son Max, shipped in from Australia by Child Welfare after his mother Jenna had been killed in a car accident. A belligerent Max accused Abby of causing her death because Jenna had been on the phone with Abby at the time. Though Ben and Max hardly knew each other, Abby and Ben agreed they needed to take Max home with them. But Max disappeared from the athletic club. When told that Max has being detained by Kevin at Crimson Lights, Abby was disappointed when Ben said he had to go pick him up himself. Days later, Abby had not seen her new husband since that night as he stayed with Max at the club. Abby visited, and brought Max a pre-launch copy of a new video game. Max pretended to not be impressed and accused Ben of caring only for Abby, not him. Abby did her best to win over Max, but confided in Victoria that he was a brat, and she wasn't getting anywhere.
Abby felt left out of the loop at Newman, so when Jack asked her to return to Jabot and help him rebuild the company, she resigned from Newman. But, feeling she could make a better contribution to the world and stop being pulled between her two families, Abby ended up going to work with Ashley at the research project headed by Dr. Simon Neville.
Ben told Abby how much he missed her, and they ended up making love. But they were interrupted by Max. The next day Ben told Abby that he had had a heart to heart with Max, had quit letting Max run his life, and they were moving back into their home with Abby. Abby discovered she was pregnant, and she and Ben were overjoyed. Ben told Max who claimed he was ok with it, but Max had visions of pushing a pregnant Abby down a flight of stairs. Max led his teacher to believe that his father was mistreating him. Ben was investigated for child abuse by CPS, but they dropped the case when Max admitted that he had been mad at his dad and exaggerated. Abby and Max were at Crimson Lights when Max caused her to get up quickly. Abby had some pain, and asked for help, but Max hesitated to call 911. She had to beg him to call, Max finally did, and Abby later left the hospital pronounced okay.
Ben was delighted when Max suggested they throw a baby shower for Abby at the Athletic Club. But as Abby came down the stairs for the surprise, she tripped and tumbled down the stairs. Later at the hospital, Abby lost their baby which had been a girl. Abby and Ben were inconsolable. Meanwhile viewers saw Max with a sly grin, removing the tripwire he had installed on the stairs. Because of the way he was acting, Abby began to suspect that Max had something to do with her fall. She asked him if he had done anything, and Max told his father that Abby hated him and was accusing him of causing her to lose their baby. Max refused to live in Abby's house anymore, so he and Ben left to stay at the athletic club. Then after Max overheard them talking about checking security footage, a fire broke out in the athletic club server room, destroying all data. After Lily's son Charlie admitted that Max had talked him into getting Max the master keycard, and Max confessed both crimes to Ashley, Max was taken away for evaluation by Child Protective Services crying for his daddy – something he had never called Ben before. Ben was livid with Dylan for not giving his best friend's son a break. It was determined that Max needed to be in a psychiatric facility. Ben promised Max he would never abandon him again and they would start over. Ben withdrew, but Abby forced him to let her console him.
Max's surgery successfully removed the tumor, but he began having seizures which caused memory loss and impaired motor skills. Ben was forced to put Max in a long term care facility. Ben began throwing himself into his work, and neglecting Abby. Both Dylan and Ashley urged Ben to let Abby help him, and after drinks with Dylan and Sharon, they appeared to be on the road to happiness again – until Abby brought up having another baby. Ben withdrew again, and later sat in the nursery reminiscing about how happy they were when they had found out that Abby was pregnant. Abby was livid when she discovered that Ben had donated all the baby gifts to the hospital pediatric wing, and she took them all back home. She sobbed as she opened each one and threw them across the room. After a talk with Ashley, Abby took the gifts back to the hospital and got Ben to level with her.
Time passed with Abby and Ben pretending that everything was okay between them. Then Ben suddenly decided he wanted to have another baby, just as Abby was going to end their marriage. Eventually, with both of them in tears, they agreed to divorce.
Abby began working closely with Victor, scoring business successes that made her the favored child for Victor to one day hand over his company. She came up with an idea to create a business incubator to help small businesses get started and share the profits. Victor vetoed the idea, but Abby went ahead and bought a warehouse to convert. Abby had second thoughts about it, and in trying to unload the warehouse, Jack turned out to be the buyer. She told Jack about her dilemma, and that Victor had left town, leaving her as acting CEO. Jack talked her into selling it to him and becoming partners in the deal. It became obvious to Abby that Victor didn't trust her after he received a payment while he was gone from 'Proven Success' which she could not explain. He hired Scott Grainger as senior vice president of special projects to advise, and pretty much keep an eye on Abby. Abby got upset when he and other executives were not taking her seriously because of her "Naked Heiress" past. Abby brought Jack their first entrepreneur, Zack Stinnett, a guy with a dating app called DesignDate. Jack approved and signed him on. After teasing Abby about her first entrepreneurship being a dating app, Scott accepted Abby's challenge over whose project would be most profitable. Abby and Zack tried out the app using a test date with each other. Abby confessed that she had gone behind his back and started a business incubator to help small businesses get started and share the profits without his consent. Victor decided it was now a Newman project, and Abby worked it out with Jack. On Zack's recommendation, Abby signed up Willie who had a GPS project, and then a third guy. Victor began pitting Abby against Scott, furthering their competition for Victor's favor. Abby and Zack began dating, and Victor actually approved of him. But unknown to Abby, he was just using her to look legitimate, while he used the dating app to run a sex ring, booking Johns for his stable of young girls.
Newly formed company Hamilton-Winters first acquisition turned out to be Abby's grandmother Dina's company, Mergeron Industries, so Dina showed up in town hoping to form a relationship with the children she had abandoned. Ashley refused to forgive her, and was upset that Jack was giving her a chance. Abby sought out her grandmother, and was upset with Ashley for never letting them meet. Under Ravi's advice, Ashley tried letting go of the past, killing Dina with kindness, inviting her to dinner at Abbott Manor. It turned out well, a family dinner, including Traci, with laughter and reminiscing. When Dina suddenly decided to return to Paris, seemingly under duress from her companion Graham, only Abby was able to convince her to stay.
Jack threw a party for Ashley to celebrate her winning the Innovator of the Year award, something John Abbott had also won in the past. Dina and Graham attended and Graham urged Dina to speak. Ashley interrupted exposing Graham as being Graham Davis who grew up in Genoa City using his mother’s maiden name Bloodworth. Dina responded, shocked, “Davis? You are the son of Ashley’s father Brent Davis?”, exposing the decades-kept secret of Ashley’s real parentage and shocking Abby and Traci. Ashley accused Graham of stalking and latching on to Dina years ago with the intent to get her trust and her fortune. Graham told how Dina stole his step father leaving him and his mother penniless, and yes he was out for revenge. Graham made a toast to Ashley the untrue Abbott. Neil helped escort Graham out of the venue, and Jack took Dina back to her hotel room. Traci confronted Ashley, demanding to know why she was just finding this out now after so many years. Ashley explained that it was true, and she had had a nervous breakdown after finding out, and that even John had gone to his grave never knowing the truth. Later, Ashley visited Dina and found her collapsed on the floor of her suite, having suffered a small stroke. Graham turned up at the hospital with a medical power of attorney, and took a drugged Dina away on a jet.
Abby and Zack declared their love and moved in together. A party had been planned for Top of The Tower to announce the success of Abby and Zack’s app DesignDate, but Victoria and Victor took over, announcing the Brash & Sassy merger and Victoria becoming COO of Newman. Abby was crushed. Then Crystal grabbed the microphone and accused Zack of using the app as a front for the sex trafficking ring from which she had escaped. Zack hustled Abby to the elevators. Zack tried to explain while driving away, admitting that it had all begun in Chicago where he ran a massage parlor/escort service. He was helping girls like Tessa and Crystal with no future who grew up in his poor neighborhood, taking care of them, and providing a lucrative service. Abby said that was sordid, horrible, and asked to be let out of the car. Zack said it was what he had to do to survive, but reminded her that Abby and Victor were culpable, and hit the accelerator with a maniacal look. Zack said it didn’t change what they had. Abby looked terrified, but Zack assured her he would never hurt her. He suggested they disappear together, that after her own family had publicly screwed her over, no one cared but him. Zack led Abby into a storage rental, he grabbed a fat envelope, and tried to convince Abby that she still loved him. Scott, who had been following them, confronted Zack. Zack gave her one last chance to come with him, but Abby said no way in hell. Zack shoved them inside and locked the door. As time passed, Scott experience PTSD. They dropped their usual barbed conversation, and Abby helped him work through it. Hugging him led to kissing, and they had sex. Afterword they were both amazed at what had occurred and vowed to never speak of it again. They started digging through the records stored there and found an envelope of the girls’ travel visas, a list of properties Zack owned and his dummy corporations. Meanwhile Jack and Victor pooled money to set up a ten million dollar reward for Abby’s return, and Sharon went on the Hilary Hour expressing her concern for Scott and Abby. They ended up getting out the next day by starting a fire under the sprinkler system which alerted an attendant who let them out. Seeing Zack’s car still there, Scott insisted on going to Zack’s motel room. Zack walked in on them, first begged Abby to run away with him, then accused them of cheating on him. Zack, about to shoot them, was charged by Scott. Zack was shot in the back by Crystal who ran away, and Zack died.
Victoria welcomed them home by shutting down Scott’s Hashtag webzine, calling a press conference, and giving Abby a statement to read taking responsibility away from Newman for DesignDate and the sex ring, which made Abby look pathetic, inexperienced, and naïve. Abby and Scott edited the statement infuriating Victoria. Scott managed to get Hashtag back up and published the full story. Called to Victoria’s office, Abby quit her job. Scott had planned to quit too, but because his Hashtag article was trending, Victoria gave Scott a raise and a bonus, and reinstated Hashtag. Abby felt double crossed again. When Victor found out, he refused Abby’s resignation, told Victoria she was wrong and agreed with Abby that he would have resigned too. Abby agreed to return with stipulations that she report directly to Victor, get an office with theirs, and a bump in title and salary. She let Victoria know that she would never forget that she was willing to let Abby leave while giving Scott a fat bonus.
Scott and Abby had a lot of awkward moments filled with sexual tension, and twice ended up in a kiss. Unfortunately, Faith saw them kissing and suddenly turned on Scott. Mariah got Faith to tell her what was wrong, and she let Scott know he was out of line. Scott and Abby decided to avoid each other, but Victor kept putting them together on various projects. Scott let Abby know that he and Sharon had declared their love, and Scott had moved in.
On New Years Eve, after agreeing that their relationship would be business only, Nick saw Scott and Abby kiss. Abby told Nick it was nothing, but Nick felt he had to tell Sharon. Sharon confronted Scott, who confessed that he had PTSD in the storage locker and that he and Abby had sex. Scott showed Sharon the engagement ring he had intended to give her New Years Eve, but she ground it into the dirt with her heel and asked him to move out. Sharon ran into Abby at the club and caused a scene with accusations that turned into a cat fight. Abby had to get away and went to work in Paris. Scott followed and confessed that he had feelings for her too. Unhappy with Hashtag being part of Newman Enterprises, Scott hoped to buy it but Lauren refused to bankroll it. He assured Abby that he would be moving to New York or Europe for job to get out of her hair. Abby had an idea, called and convinced Victor to sell Hashtag to Scott and take payments from its profits. Scott thanked her, but she said she owed him for the sex ring story which had saved her career. Scott discussed relocating to London or Paris to work on a story about jewel thieve rings who target jet setters, and to go undercover, he needed a well-known jet setter like Abby on his arm.
Jack received a frantic call from Dina, who had taken a train to Bordeaux, France, with her nurse where they had gotten separated. Dina did not know where she was, then Jack lost the call. After much worrying, a social worker in London called Jack that Dina had been found there. Jack and Abby flew to London, and Jack returned home with both Abby and Dina. Dina turned against Ashley, distrusting her even to serve her food, accusing Ashley of poisoning her. Abby, after many successes in Paris, decided to return permanently with Victor’s blessing, just in time to witness her mother Ashley being fired from Newman. Incensed, Abby took it upon herself to find evidence that Jack and Victoria had set Ashley up to appear to be spying for Jabot. Against Ashley’s wishes, Abby took it to Victor telling him he had fired the wrong person.
Abby began videoing Dina telling stories of her past. Among them, Dina told how she got bored while John practically lived at the office as he built Jabot, and she admitted to having “multiple affairs with many consequences” like Ashley being fathered by club tennis pro Brent Davis. Dina disclosed another secret, that Jack was not John’s son either. She said he was a man from the country club, but she got agitated that she could not remember his name, although she remembered fondly their daily afternoon rendezvous at the Stardust Inn. Abby told Ashley and showed her the video. Both were shocked, yet with Dina’s Alzheimer's, who knew how much of any of it was true. Ashley found it interesting to think that Jack may not be a “blood Abbott” either. Abby hired Charlie Ashby to edit the video, omitting that clip. When finished, Abby and Ashley prescreened and approved it. A theater was rented, the Abbotts arrived in a limo in formal dress. Victor showed up uninvited, but Dina let him stay. Everyone was enjoying the video titled, “What the mind can’t remember, the heart never forgets.” Ashley and Abby were shocked when the clip suddenly appeared. Jack was devastated. Victor gave condolences then laughed when Jack turned to leave. Later a DNA test comparing Billy’s to Jack’s DNA proved it was true. Jack fought the truth for a long time, but finally exited Jabot and Billy was elected CEO, as the only “blood Abbott” aside from Traci, who had declined.
Abby found herself attracted to Arturo Rosales, the contractor who worked for Nick and Nikki’s venture New Hope. Abby convinced him to go to Miami with her for 3 days of fun. Then made him buy an expensive suit using her discount for a New Hope charity event. Nikki saw them kiss, and later let Abby know that she and Arturo had just ended an affair. Abby accused Arturo of only wanting another Newman, but he charmed her, and she got past it. Abby was also told by Victor to stay away from “this Arturo fellow.” Arturo started losing contracts and being harassed by the police, they thought thanks to Victor, but it turned out to be a jealous Nikki. Abby met a dark-haired man who turned out to be Arturo’s older brother Rey. Arturo was not happy that his brother, who had raised him after their father walked out, was back in his life. Three months later, Rey’s estranged wife Mia showed up in town intent on reuniting with Rey. She caused a scene at a Newman party announcing that they had broken up because she had an affair with Arturo. Arturo was able to convince Abby that it was a stupid mistake, and he only had eyes for Abby. At Rey and Mia’s vow renewal party, Arturo asked Abby to marry him, and they became engaged. The Abbotts threw them an engagement party.
Nick formed a new company called Dark Horse and Abby joined them doing marketing and PR. Abby approached Nick for Dark Horse to buy 985 Cresthaven Place as an investment, but Nick turned it down. Arturo talked Abby into buying it on her own. Abby went to Devon with a proposal to create a restaurant in it. Devon researched it and took it on. Abby and Devon convinced Arturo’s sister Lola, the talented young owner of a Cuban food truck, to be their head chef. But Lola was attacked and fell into the Abbott pool in winter. Kyle saved her but she went into a coma and needed a liver transplant. Devon wanted to find another chef, but Abby talked him into waiting now that a donor had been found. After Lola received a transplant from Summer Newman, Abby went to her, encouraging her to recuperate fast, and get the ball rolling on the still-unnamed restaurant.
Jack, Billy and Phyllis all vied for CEO of Jabot, but Phyllis won due to the Abbotts splitting their votes, and by hiring Kerry Johnson as lead chemist, whom both Abbotts had been trying to lure. Five months later it was revealed that the real Kerry had been creating a new product line for Jabot in Paris with Ashley, and the imposter, Dominique Carroll, had been licensing the products to Ashley’s company Premiere Cosmetics, when Ashley returned to take over Jabot. Phyllis was voted out as CEO and Jack voted in. Ashley declined Jack’s offer that Ashley develop products, and let him run the business. They decided on a challenge where each would run their company and see who turns a profit or goes bankrupt. Jack swore he wouldn’t sell Jabot to her or anyone. Ashley offered second in command position in Paris to Abby but she declined.
Later when Mia and Rey broke up, Mia threatened Arturo that she would tell Abby about their encounter unless he convinced Rey to take her back. Arturo refused and told Abby about it before Mia could. Abby, who had been cheated on too many times before in her life, broke up with Arturo and would except no excuses or amount of flowers and promises. Abby went out and smashed up Arturo’s SUV with a hammer. He caught her, told her he loved her, but she told him to not ever say that again. He turned around, only to be slugged by Rey. Abby fired Arturo from Dark Horse, but later told Nick to feel free to rehire him. He was a good employee, just bad with women. Nick did rehire Arturo.
Abby and Devon’s new restaurant venture, Society, held its grand opening on April 23, 2019. Ana Hamilton and Jett Slade performed. Arturo kept hanging around, and Abby kept asking him to leave. It was a good thing he didn’t as he saved the opening several times when the ordering software was not working, food was not delivered, the fire alarm kept going off, and the power went out. In the end it was deemed a success, Lola’s food was highly praised, and critics who arrived later loved it. The only damper on the evening was when Neil Winters failed to arrive, Devon went home and found Neil had died in his sleep from a stroke.
Arturo let it slip and Lola guessed that Mia had been the one who attacked her, thinking it was Abby. Lola confronted Mia, Abby overheard and joined in. Abby was about to call the police, but Lola talked her out of it for Mia’s unborn baby’s sake. But later Paul questioned Mia and she told him what had happened that night, then cried out in pain. Mia was taken to the hospital, but was fine later. Rey accused her of faking it for Paul. Neither Abby or Lola would file charges against Mia. The pregnancy was far enough along that a blood test was taken for paternity which revealed Arturo was the father. Ray and Arturo hugged, and Arturo and Mia left together for Miami. Ray filed for divorce, saying they deserved each other.
Abby was pursued by Nate Hastings, but she had sworn off men for a while. They had dinner together, and afterward proclaimed it their first date. They began showing up together at family get-togethers, and Victor let them know he approved. Adam offered Nate double what Neil paid for his penthouse, so Nate sold, and bought Cane and Lily’s house. Abby went to dinner there one evening, and they ended up making love. But afterward, Abby let him know that they were not a couple, and turned down his advances, confusing Nate with her mixed signals. But Nate persevered, letting Abby know he was there when she needed him and they became lovers.
Adam approached Abby offering the opportunity to purchase The Grand Phoenix Hotel, the last remaining Dark Horse property after Phyllis divested them all, with failed expectations to keep the new hotel for herself. Abby made the deal, most interested in making the luxurious lounge the place to be seen. Phyllis came to Abby begging to get in on the project. Abby offered her the manager position for a 20% buy in. But before she could come up with the money, Chelsea did and became manager with 25%, cutting Phyllis out. Abby hired Theo Vanderway to help with opening the artistic boutique hotel where you check in at the bar, get a free favorite drink, and guests use hotel tablet computers to order room service.
Phyllis stunned everyone by showing up to the grand opening with Adam. Phyllis congratulated Abby and Chelsea, saying it was better than she would have done. Someone put a psychedelic drug they called MDMA ecstasy or Molly in the sangria. Everyone who drank it started tripping out of control. Sharon began blubbering all over Rey. Theo and Summer realized they were high. Phyllis knew it had to have been Zoe. Elena helped Nate, Sharon, and Devon whose heartrate hit 150, all affected harder because they were taking medication. Rey called the police. Abby and Chelsea were panicking over bad publicity, so Phyllis made them a deal. She would expose who did it for a 25% share in the Grand Phoenix. Feeling desperate, Abby took her up on it, Zoe was arrested, and Phyllis became chief executive in charge of security. Phyllis had a new security system installed where she could spy on everyone from her laptop. Next there was a hostage situation in the lobby including Adam, Chelsea, Connor and Abby. Abby helped resolve the situation as Chance swooped down from the ductwork in the ceiling and rescued them.
Nate had been sucked into a scheme to expose Adam by claiming that Victor had had been murdered, and Nate nearly lost his license to practice in Wisconsin. Nate told Abby they were over, that he felt like he had to throw away his conscience to be with her and her family.
When customer’s valuables started being stolen from their room safes, Chance was called in and discovered the system had been breached then covered up. Phyllis was fired by Abby. The Grand Phoenix was becoming renowned for its mishaps. It turned out that Abby had been behind it all along, hiring actors and using fake jewelry, just to get rid of Phyllis. Chance said he'd known for quite some time, as they continued to flirt with each other. Abby offered Chance Phyllis’ former job as head of security. He did not accept but said he was staying in Genoa City, then asked Abby to go out on a date. Chance agreed to go on a date with Phyllis, which she flaunted in front of Abby. Having to leave early to help Summer, Phyllis laid a passionate kiss on Chance. But Chance later let both of them know that he had chosen to be with Abby. Phyllis admitted she had only gone after Chance to goad Abby. After an impromptu outdoor ice skating date during work hours, Chance and Abby made love in his hotel room. Her knowing staff sent them room service.
Phyllis blackmailed Chelsea and bought her 25% share of the Grand Phoenix. Abby offered Phyllis 3 times the value of her now 50%, but Phyllis, refused, countering with an offer to buy Abby out and pay over 20 years, which Abby refused. So Phyllis blackmailed Abby into selling Abby’s 50% of the Grand Phoenix to her with a recording of Chance and Adam discussing their cover-up that Adam had killed a guy in Las Vegas trying to protect Chance, who had been working undercover. Then Phyllis secured the flash drive in her safe deposit box. Abby, disguised as Phyllis, went to Phyllis’ bank, and took it from her box. Phyllis was livid when she later discovered what they had done, telling them it was not the only copy. The night of a big storm with Phyllis trying to sooth guests who had no electricity, they took the opportunity to search Phyllis’s room. When they could not get into her laptop, Abby poured a bottle of water into it. Then they took a shower together in her bathroom, making sure Phyllis would know they had been there. Then with no restaurant or room service, Chance made all the guests PB&Js.
Abby flaunted to Phyllis that it didn’t matter that she now owned her hotel because Abby had bought the land across the street and begun construction of a grander hotel. Abby still hung out in the lobby just to irritate Phyllis, and playing tricks on her. Abby drove out Phyllis’ guests with constant jack-hammering across the street, and by pulling fire alarms. In retaliation, Phyllis got Code Enforcement to shut down Abby’s construction. Nick tried to intervene, offering to give Abby one of his properties to build a hotel, but Abby declined. Meanwhile Phyllis bought a box of dinosaur bones online, and buried them at the construction site, which brought construction to a halt.
Abby’s grandmother Dina died surrounded by her family, but Theo was incensed the Abbotts didn’t even notify him to join them as she passed. Theo attended the memorial, playing Dina’s favorite song encouraging everyone to dance and celebrate Dina. Later at the reading of the will, the bulk of estate was split between her three children. Kyle was left her extensive art collection, and Abby received Dina’s Paris apartment.
Abby and Chance declared their love and began planning a future including having children potentially named after Cary Grant and Princess Diana. Chance proposed with balloons and flowers in Chancellor park. But their plans were interrupted after Chance was shot by a sniper when he jumped between Adam and a bullet. Elena operated, although in critical condition, Chance came through it well, but nearly died days later due to an infection. Once Chance recovered, they decided to get married immediately. Devon became an ordained minister to marry them in a family only ceremony at the Chancellor estate. Chance’s mother Nina returned to be his “best mom” and Abby asked Mariah to be her maid of honor. But as guests waited in the living room, Abby was having a meltdown locked in her bathroom. Mariah called in Ashley and Chance, and they managed to talk her out, and reassure her. The wedding was beautiful. Chairs were cleared for a reception where everyone put marital advice on cards in a pretty glass box. The couple left for their honeymoon on a private island, which turned out to be a scam. Finding themselves in a smelly beach shack with an air mattress, they decided to make the best of it and moved to the beach. Later Chance got them better accommodations.
A couple months later, Abby was disappointed to discover she was not yet pregnant. Her doctor found scarring of the uterus after her miscarriage left her unable to carry a baby. Mariah agreed to be their surrogate, but before that could happen Chance found out that he was unable to father a child, likely due to his recent sepsis. Then the Justice Department stepped in, and Chance was called away on a case. He left letters for both Nina and Abby, imploring Abby to go ahead and find a sperm donor and make their baby happen. After Nina and Abby agonized pouring over donor profiles, Devon stepped in and offered to be the donor. Chance called Abby from a burner phone a few times, so he knew about Devon and the pregnancy. He sent his favorite sweatshirt to Devon to give to Abby for when she needed it most. Chance was gone for months, throughout the pregnancy and beyond. Mariah, Devon, Abby, Tessa, and Nina bonded together for the baby. Mariah and Tessa moved into the Chancellor estate, and Nina stayed on.
Out of the blue, Abby’s ex-husband Ben (Stitch) showed up from his home in Iowa City. He said his old boss at Memorial was retiring, and he was there for the celebration. Abby asked about his son Max. Ben said Max had been transferred from one facility to another with no improvement of his brain tumor and he didn’t remember Ben anymore. Ben congratulated Abby on her wedding, and was surprised at the surrogacy, realizing that it was due to their miscarriage. Ben dropped by again, saying he had been offered his old boss’s job Chief of Surgery so he might be moving back to Genoa City.
Meanwhile a very pregnant Mariah went missing. She sent a few group texts telling everyone that she was on a business trip (which her boss Jack knew nothing about), then that she just needed some space. Several weeks went by, and the few texts just didn’t sound like Mariah. Rey was called in and found that Mariah’s phone could not be traced. Stitch showed up to help. Seeing Mariah’s favorite protein bars, it reminded him that he had seen an older gray-haired man buying a large supply of them at a convenience store as he had been heading out of town. The man had dropped a shopping list written on yellow stork notepad paper. Tessa exclaimed that she had given that notepad to Mariah. Rey jumped on the clue, and found the store, but the surveillance footage showed an old man with nothing in his cart, then showed Stitch leaving. Rey and Victor checked up on Stitch and discovered he had been fired from his job in Iowa City months earlier, and Devon offered that Nate had already been given the job at Memorial. The encryption was finally broken on Mariah’s phone and traced to the Grand Phoenix. Rey got them into Stitch’s room, called her phone, and it rang in Stitch’s duffle. They tipped Abby who was at home with Stitch. She played on his love for her and got Stitch to admit that he had Mariah and would take Abby to her. Meanwhile Devon’s detective friend Denise discovered that Stitch had rented a house 2 months prior. Abby arrived to find Mariah in labor, Devon shortly afterward, and Rey left them to pursue Stitch. Abby and Devon delivered the baby boy with the online help of Nate.
Mariah had been locked in that room for weeks with no one but the unborn baby, who she had been calling Bowie. Going through that together, Mariah had bonded with the baby and it was hard for her to let go, and to get over being afraid; even though Stitch had stolen his son from the facility in Iowa and vanished. Abby named the baby Dominic Phillip Newman Abbott Chancellor and a christening was held with Mariah and Devon as god parents. Afterward Mariah and Tessa moved out, Mariah assuring Abby that she would be pumping and saving her milk for Dominic.
Just as everyone had come to terms with those circumstances, Christine came by with the devastating news that a bomb had leveled the building in Valencia, Spain, which Chance and his colleagues had been using as a safe house. In further news, four were classified as died in line of duty. Abby fought the news hoping he had not been in the building even after being sent a photo of Chance’s watch found buried in the rubble. Then Christine brought her Chance’s wedding band which he never removed. Everyone was concerned that Abby was refusing to believe Chance was dead and was not caring for Dominic. Abby suddenly gave the baby to Devon to care for, packed a small bag and left home. Pouring over a cedar box of Chance’s most cherished trinkets, she found his medal of honor won in Iraq. Abby remembered Chance saying that the family who took him in deserved that medal. She found their names Kim and Errol Dunaway and that they lived in Soller, Spain. The operator found a phone number which she called. Kim answered but told Abby she must have a wrong number. A few minutes later Kim called back, said she could not talk, but that Chance was with them, alive but in a bad way and needed her. Excited that she had been right all along, she booked a private plane to Majorka, paying extra to keep it secret, even from Victor Newman. Jack and Ashley took the company jet to Valencia to search for Abby. Kim kept Abby in suspense for quite some time, but Chance finally emerged from another room and they fell into each other’s arms. He told of how he had played dead among his dead comrades filled with rage and guilt, then with a concussion and leg torn up he made his way to the Delaneys. Abby called Ashley and they returned to Genoa City with Chance. Once home, Chance’s Section Chief called dismissed him from his mission, and told him they would handle it, putting a guard on Chance and his family. Everyone was thrilled that Chance was home and alive, Nina and Jill making him promise to stop this heroic life now that he had a family. The Newmans threw him a welcome home party. Although he promised not to leave his family again, he frequently drifted off into space still feeling guilty. Christine let Chance know that thanks to his intel, the bombers and their leader were captured. Chance was considering returning to the GCPD as a detective again, working with Ray and getting excited about cases. Then Devon asked for joint custody of Dominic. Abby made the decision not to approve, and after further deliberation, Chance decided to concentrate on his son and learning how to be a father. But when Devon sued for joint custody, Chance admitted that he was not ready to be a father and talked Abby into agreeing to the joint custody situation. Devon requested and they agreed that Winters be added to Dominic's name in honor of Neil.
Abby suggested therapy for Chance, he nixed it, and decided to go back to work instead. But he clearly was suffering from PTSD. Rey convinced him to open up to Abby about it and let her help. They spoke to Sharon who gave them a list of psychiatrists, and Chance made an appointment.
Dominic suddenly started acting lethargic, and tests showed he had a rare blood disorder which could lead to complete bone marrow failure. Abby's marrow was only a half match, but Devon's was a full match. After a bone marrow transplant, Dominic was confirmed to be doing fine and should make a full recovery. But they needed to take all care to avoid any infection. Chance offered to fund setting up transports and visits to Devon.
One foggy night, Rey Rosales was driving, suffered a heart attack causing his car to swerve into on-coming traffic, and he was killed. Abby was concerned about how Chance would react to losing his partner. But Chance had great support in his therapist and began working Rey’s open cases and closing them all to help himself handle the loss.
