Just when you thought Alan and Alex were cold, heartless billionaires you learn that they ARE cold, heartless billionaires who really care about each other! Who would have thunk it? ; )
For those who thought Alex would just fold under the embarrassment of Cyrus' scam, remember the old adage "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". Indeed! But instead of being scorned, she arranges the kidnapping of the granddaughter of one of her dearest friends? Romantic rival, to be sure, but she had to realize that her marriage to Cyrus was a house of cards, just waiting to fall. But when all is said and done, where will Marina, Cyrus, Griggs, Alex, and now even Alan (the accessory) be? And will Alex's friendship with Buzz - so evident at the fundraiser - survive?
Of course, Alex is laid up at the Tiki Hut Cedar's Hospital and Alan is pulling the strings. But will this mean good or bad news for Marina? It's too soon to tell. Of course, Beth had to have a medical crisis this week so they could use the set twice - how convenient.
This whole lack of using sets is really gone overboard. Josh is running his "ministry" out of a hotel room? The quantity of ex-wives he has might put that into question. I'm glad that it finally came to light (pardon the pun) that he's lead a less than steady life. He's as solid a citizen as a soap character can be (even Frank owned a chop shop way back when) but he's got flaws, too. But how can he lead a flock when he just thought about the ministry this year? I realize we have to suspend disbelief a bit on a soap - or any television show - but these doctors and lawyers (and now ministers) who get their training on a commercial break is ridiculous. I'm going to go study for my brain surgeons credentials, so I'll be right back....
Ok, that was fun. But back to the column.
The sets on GL have to be somewhere, right? Someone has to have a home with some warmth and character. Photos of the family lying about. Not a sterile impersonal hotel room and a tacky Tiki Hut hospital - at least Company is safe, but let Main Street burn down. Maybe Alan's "vision" will show some improvement if Doris becomes mayor.
And while we're at it, Billy and Vanessa were finally on the way to getting somewhere in their relationship, and possibly helping Billy battle the bottle when, wait, there's a knock at the door. Suddenly Olivia and Dinah (and little Emma) are going to visit Bill, too? Someone alert the TSA and FAA - this ought to be one heck of a flight! Now we have to figure out what Bill's been up to since he left - and who the mystery woman is answering his emails. I have to admit that I loved seeing Daniel Cosgrove (Bill) this week on "Dirty Sexy Money" - I've always adored him. I have to find that picture of me sitting on his lap - he's a total doll and I can't wait to have him back in Springfield - no matter how long he stays.
Even as things are cooling off a bit outside, Springfield seems to have plenty of heat generated with the stories this fall. Between Marina's kidnapping and Alan and Reva's secret, as well as a few other tidbits down the road, there will be plenty to tune in for this fall.
For those who have been curious about the book GL is pushing that explains the Jonathan storyline, here's the deal. I've read half of the book and other than meeting a girl in Tourmaline, CA there isn't really a reason to buy it. I don't see any correlation to storylines coming up. Unless Jonathan makes his way back to Springfield....
